Selanne, Winnipeg Jets are Back…Well, Selanne is Definitely Back

In Monday night NHL action, Anaheim Ducks forward and former Winnipeg Jets superstar Teemu Selanne became just the fourth player in NHL history to score a hat-trick at the age of 40 or older. Check out that shake on the penalty shot!

Selanne factored in on every one of the Ducks goals notching the hat trick and adding two assists as the Ducks topped the Colorado Avalanche by a score of 5-4. Selanne is having a great season with the Ducks as he has recorded 28 goals and 75 points in 67 games played.

Two of the better stories to come out of the NHL this season have to be the possible return of the Winnipeg Jets and Teemu Selanne’s still getting the job done at 40. Is anybody getting nostalgic yet? Remember when Selanne broke into the NHL some 20 years ago and tallied a record-breakingĀ 76 goals and 132 points in his first season as a Jet? I do. The record breaking goal. The celebration.

Is Selanne your favourite Jet of all-time? If not, who is?

  1. Believe it or not there is still 4 former Jets in the NHL! We got Teemu Selanne in Anaheim, Nikolai Khabibulin in Edmonton, Shane Doan in Phoenix (keeping it real), and Kris Draper in Detroit. That itself is an unbelievable feat. Best all-time though I’ll have to give the nod to Dale Hawerchuk. The 9-year Jet played in at least 75 games per year had one 81 point season, two 90+ point seasons (91 & 96) and six 100+ point seasons! That is amazing numbers for a guy who isn’t widely regarded as the best Jet ever! Oh and he also scored 49 points in 38 playoff games during his time in Winnipeg.

  2. Selanne is having a good season but not a spectacular one based on his career stats, even if you only count the last handful of seasons. Check the stats out here:

    This guy is incredible!

  3. Okay, looking at Selanne videos is something every hockey enthusiast should do. This guy is going to walk away from the game as a legend.

  5. How about Phil Housley? three seasons of awesome!

  6. About time someone threw out the name Phil Housley! Thomas Steen hasn’t been mentioned either!!!!

  7. Those are definitely some great picks. For some reason when I think of great Jets of all time, I think of Bob Essensa. He won 33 games in 92-93!

  8. In Selanne’s 5-point game the other night he scored on a penalty shot. The last time he scored on a penalty shot his teammate Cam Fowler was 15 months old!
